Alexander Bartelt is Professor of Cardiovascular Immunometabolism at the Institute for Cardiovascular Prevention at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich and head of a junior research group at the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research. He studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Hamburg. During his doctoral studies at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, he pioneered research on brown fat metabolism with Jörg Heeren, while during his postdoctoral training at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health he embarked on immunometabolism of brown fat with Gökhan Hotamisligil. His contributions to the understanding of metabolism have been recognized through national and international awards, fellowships and honors, including an ERC Starting Grant in 2019. He is a member of the CAS Young Center. In late 2020, his book Der Fettversteher. Wie wir unser gutes Fett aktivieren, um unser schlechtes zu verlieren was published by Ullstein Verlag.
